Driving License:
To drive legally in Kyrgyzstan you need an International Driver’s Permit (IDP) in addition to your license from your home country. If that’s not possible, then you need to order a translation, send us a copy of your driver’s license and for $30 we can make a translation made of your license which will satisfy the local traffic authorities.
Speed limits:
- 60 km/h – City
- 90 km/h- Highways
Follow the road signs.
- If police stop you for speeding they must have a video that shows your car, the time, and how fast you were going.
- Keep your headlights on at all times when you are on highway.
- Absolutely no alcohol. If the police can smell any alcohol then you are consider drunk.

Some areas in our country are prohibited for driving due to safety reasons:
- Kok-Airyk pass – road is not exist anymore / mistake on map
- Ton Pass – road is not exist anymore / mistake on map
- Tosor Pass – dangerous off-road conditions
- Arabel Plateau – no bridges over deep rivers
- Altyn Arashan & Karakol gorge – suitable only for local special prepared vehicles
- Chatyr Kol – Kel-Suu road – all bridges are damaged
- Kel-Suu lake (after yurt camp) – last 8km to the lake should be done on foot
- Enilchek (after Mayda-Adyr Base Camp) – no bridges over deep rivers
- Karkara Valley (after base camp) – no bridges over deep rivers
- Sary-Jaz Valley – dangerous off-road conditions
- KyzylOi – Toluk – Torkent – the road not in use, dangerous off-road conditions
